First Official Windows Binaries for ASSS - [Mine GO BOOM]

Grelminar finally did what he wanted to do a long, long time ago: be able to build his own binaries for Windows. I personally have not tested these, but should within a week or so when I get the time. If someone whom is good with documentation would like to test these out, and write up a simple How To for beginners, I'd be happy to post them here.

Please post all problems and questions pertaining to ASSS in the ASSS Questions forum.
If you find that ASSS crashes at specific times, or contains other functional problems, post them in the ASSS Bugs forum.
If you'd like to request a certain feature, post them at the Server Suggestions forum.

Updated Debuildlevel - [Mine GO BOOM]

I've updated the Debuildlevel program inside of the LVZToolKit.zip. The only change was that I've changed 'char' to 'unsigned char' inside of the source. What does this mean? Well, if you have over 127 different images, when you ran the debuildlevel on this lvz file, it would create the output with negative image numbers.

So if you happen to create lvzs with over 127 images, you may want to upgrade. Otherwise, nothing else changed.

Naturally, you expect the bad-good guys and otherwise wolves in sheep clothing or what not to misbehave.
However, when those who you would ussually do not suspect, and cry out to be such nice guys end up developing some kind of an obscure and devious domination plan (remember now, information is power, and these guys made a billion-dollar-rolling company out of that hypothesis as well as collecting enough information to make Microsoft shiver and try to buy them out) things start to seem threatening and worrying.

We (I) are talking about the new "great deal - by first look" of google, the 100MBs free of charge email account.

To those of you who have signed in with it, or planning to, I would suggest that you do not, ever, never, corrospond with anyone on it without using PGP, at the least not untill this issue is resolved and we, the public will get some more information about the giant information hogger's plans.

As for more details about this new email plan of google known as g-mail, I'll adress you to an article over at the register.

The possibilities are truely creepy, to say in an understatement.

Meant to be april fool's day (but silly people behind it didn't realise it's not april's fools yet outside of the eastren edge block).
Eitherway, very amatuerishly done, and even a script kiddie could realise it up after a couple of simple checks.

This has been circulating about for the past week, kind of funny.
People claim that it's impossible that Robin wrote it since he's a declared liberal.
IMHO, he might have wrote it AS A JOKE.
IE, the sort of "ok, lets get tired of trying to maintain democracy, lets go your way, lets be lamers" and here's the result of how he invisions the USA to handle after of:

I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of one plan for peace. " Books, not Bombs" won't work. The head mullahs won't let anyone read them. If they do, they poke their eyes out.

Here's the plan:

1) The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini and the rest of them 'good old boys'. We will never "interfere" again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No more sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself, don't hide here. Asylum would not ever be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers.

5) No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else.

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere". They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides' most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if any anyway.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, it would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

9b) Use the buildings as replacement for the twin towers.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer.

Now, ain't that a winner of a plan.

Yes indeed, AOL's snappy new "Instant Messenger" does contain WildTangent - their "partnership" in popup advertising is part of their new "buddy games" "feature."

WildTangent is a "borderline" trojan - actually defined as "adware" and where we cut the mustard is a complicated legal thing that Nancy can explain better than I can. But legally, most of the WildTangent stuff is not "officially" a trojan except for one part.

The reasoning is this - WildTangent DOES place a working uninstaller on the control panel. If you go there to the "Add/Remove software" item and remove the "WildTangent" stuff, almost ALL of it does go away. The "WCMDMGRL.EXE" item will remain running and will not come out. This ONE piece is the actual "trojan" ... the other item detected by a few others is the "updater" for it. A fresh new one was made for AOL exclusively so THEY could provide advertising. Also, another factor is that when people go to install anything containing "WildTangent" there ***IS*** a VERY clearly stated warning of what WildTangent is and what it does from a privacy standpoint in the license agreement prior to installation. Folks don't read it though.

Unlike the "WCMDMGRL.EXE" item though, the "WCMDMGR" portion is controlled directly by AOL-IM itself and that's why the AV didn't get it at the same time - it wasn't running or TRYING to run until the firewall nabbed it first and locked access in my best estimation of what happened.

As to the registry entries, those would belong to the entire SET of WildTangent files and the "game pieces" belonging to it.

What you'll want to do (of course, ditch that AIM first) is go to your Program files folder and have a look at all the "WildTangent" subfolder. There'll also be more in the \(windows)\WT folder ... there's a lot of stuff in there. Running the "Add/Remove" from the control panel however for "WildTangent" WILL remove all this. AOL however has decided to make SURE that if you remove it, they can put it back, thus the other bit of the "surprise" ...

SubSpace 2?... (Don't get too excited) - [Gravitron]

Well, I, personally, don't really know what all the big commotion is about.
SilverPlatter was a developer of Peer2Peer technology, supposedly one which will save costs of operating central servers for MPOGs by using new and secure Peer2Peer technology.
They were to display ( http://www.silverplattersoftware.com/news.htm ) a working MPOG on this tech at a convention, but I never saw any news anywhere on it (even on gamespy, they faded after a single news).

Anyway, BDE grouped with this company (Horizon = SilverPlatter, Horizon's DEx = Alloy(tm) P2Ptech) to make this Peer2Peer technology for their new project - www.altnet.com.
A big Peer2Peer network for sharing information, vending songs for artists and hosting MPOGs.
SubSpace was supposed to be their prime flag ship product in the last section, to prove that this tech really works.

So, even that silverplatter has bitten the bullet, I doubt that BDE (the owners of BDE own the SS rights under a cash-company called Ozaq2) are going to stop there just because of that.
What they'll do with SS from there...well, this is a whole another unknown issue and your guess is as good as mine.

But getting all excited over Horizon/SP filing chapter 11, is hardly justified.
Because they just created the networking technology, if you will, part of "SS2", they were not developing the actual game.
And thus, I do not see a reason for them to make a big impact, as I'm sure BDE will rush to grab the tech, develop it further to completion, and the game itself is probably still being in continued development by whichever section of BDE which was handling it so far.

Last 0.38 lvztoolkit update - [Mine GO BOOM]

Hopefully last 0.38 lvztoolkit.zip update. DeBuildLevel now supports uncompressed lvz images.

For those that make programs for lvz's, if the uncompressed size and compressed size are equal, then you can skip the uncompression. Also when compressing, if the compressed size larger than uncompressed data, you can set the uncompressed data in there, and have the two size values set to each other. You cannot do that with the CLV2 section yet though, which is a bug in continuum where it doesn't check if already uncompressed.

Buildlevel is updated again (still inside lvztoolkit.zip) to fix the small object information file. So if you build a lvz, and it won't decompress in DeBuildLevel, redownload the toolkit and get the updated Buildlevel.exe

    In the latest SubSpaceHQ news post, Mackie(the clutz)man has decided to name this site "Shanky's Server Site".
    Now to those of you who don't know, Shanky is MGB's big (I think) brother.
    Now, although the gracious great Shanky is hosting this site, this is Mine Go Boom's Server Help (incase you do not know it yet) site.
    It's not Shanky's site (which can be found right around the corner), nor is it a server site, it is a Server Help site.
    With a stress on the help part (we help with more than just server issues, but this is what the place started from).
    So the next time you jump by SSHQ forums, or see silly ol' clutz, remind him whose site this is (and to stay away from virtual directory configs).
    Not that we do not appriciate the advertising "plug" though, so thanks.

    The LVZ file format is updated for Continuum .38 (well, prerelease 3), so I've updated the LVZ toolkit file. It no longer contains my MakeLevel program, since .38 will read each lvz as its own. DeBuildLevel was updated to support this new version 2 of LVZ files. Check the Server Help Misc User Apps forum for future user made LVZ clients that support LVZv2.

    Password Recovery System - [Mine GO BOOM]

    So people can finally stop bugging me/priitk/ghost ship/etc:

    Password recovery by e-mail feature has been added to SSC database server. Feature will be rolled out in 2 phases:

    1. Setting e-mail address phase, starting from January 29 During this time users are able to set their e-mail address by issuing command ?setemail email@add.ress. Users who haven't set e-mail address using that command will notification message to set it when they log in.

    This phase will last 2-4 weeks.
    NOTE: New accounts that are created don't get that question, as e-mail address is also asked by Continuum when new user is created.

    If, and if yes, under what circumstances ?setemail will be available after end of this phase is not decided yet.

    2. Normal operation
    When user loses password for some name, he can log in using different name and ussue command ?lostpassword playername which causes new randomly-generated temporary password to be sent to e-mail address associated with the user name. Regular (original) password for that user will still work, new password is additional password, player use to log in and change regular password. Temporary password is valid for 24h.

    This was a known problem for IE for a while, but the fact that someone who plays SS does this just shows how much some of our population is gay (also, Mozilla owns):

    A player has been stealing user passwords using MSIE security holes. As far as I've gathered currently he was going around in several zones, telling people to check web site http://bcproductions.hypermart.net.     New Forums - [Mine GO BOOM]

    I have changed the forums for the first time in over 4 or 5 years now. The WebBBS's archives were too fat that it couldn't even support itself (why the link went bad, had to disable it). So now I have it pointing to a new PHPBBs forums (forums.minegoboom.com). More information about it all once you go over there and read the announcements and such.

    Note about old board: I plan on having it viewable for another month (the time I have it set to going into archive mode for the last years), but you cannot post anything. The main page will redirect you over to the new forums if you don't click on a link in 20 seconds, enough time for those who don't know where to click to go to new site, and enough time for someone to check back on an old message. After a month, the cgi itself will be replaced with a redirecting script to the new forums, since I know a bunch of websites like to link directly to the cgi itself.

    Linux Server Update - [Mine GO BOOM]

    For lack of better things to post news about, I'll post a quick update about the newest thing for the linux server. No, its not done yet. No, it doesn't have everything yet. No, you can't help (yet). Yes, it works under linux and windows (i might port it to wince/pocketpc one it is stable and the code doesn't change much). Yes, you can add your own *(yournamehere) command if you know how to program in C. No, platinum-halo still deals with getting your name back on the SSC billing server, so you can't have the name GOD. Yes, ?lag was finally added to the server. No, don't ask anymore questions because this method of reporting to unasked questions seems pretty lame to me now that I'm finished, but too lazy to go back and make it a better format.

    MERVBot build 23 released - [catid]

    The bot core has been updated to allow programmers to design nearly any behaviour for an arena. If you know C++, you can make a bot with the new plugin system. A tutorial is available on the download site as well as many existing bot plugins. There are a handful of devoted, talented, and friendly MERVBot developers who write plugins for others.

    Along with build 23 are assurances that previous complaints and crashes have been alleviated or at least explained in the F.A.Q.

    + Glitches, which had plagued the earlier builds, are now gone.

    A good example of all the things you can do in subspace with lvz's is in the zone SSCX A Small Warzone. The main arena has my flag stats bot with a .lvz showing game time left when a team has 5 flags, and every so often divine's bot showing your stats in game. Then there are the board game bots. Currently, ?go chess and ?go reversi (also known as Othello) are completely done and have all game rules in it. Divine working on a scrabble bot now as I type this up.

    No, it isn't a mistype of the work ass (sorry Shanky), but something else; A Small Subspace Server. I've been getting plenty of emails in the last while about people wanting to make their own servers, but not having enough knowledge or the required skills for it that I'll post a little update. Please don't send me emails with requests or wanting to help.

    Asss is a new server that was created by someone in SubSpace. I won't say his name right now, otherwise he would get a flood of messages/emails like I know I will. :( It was started a while back as a linux server, but I helped with it so it compiles for both linux and windows. It does not support any client except VIE as of yet, though it will support continuum in the future, hopefully. We do have a server-side bot system thought up, and a chat-only public protocol in the works. No, we will not make a *(your name here) command for you that lets you kill everyone instantly, you can make a server-side bot later that can do that for you.

    The only thing I would need of public help would be just this. I need a copy of the .lib, the .dll, and any required .h's for making a program to use Berkeley's DB library, version 1.85. I know of a copy at Nightmare.com, but have yet to have any luck, or others, with compiling it. If you can get a copy of this compiled into a .lib, a .dll, and any required .h's to be able to use it, send it along to me at mgb@minegoboom.com.

    Continuum Update - Ideas - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Through the council emails, Priitk has stated this responce to Zippydan's latest ideas:

    Sorry, I have been rather busy with work and done only needed maintenance tasks for the Subspace during last months and this situatation is likely to continue at least for a month.

    My comments about the suggestions:
    1. 45 degree wall angles -- easily doable. I'll probably make it more general in the way that instead of current fixed tile number system where tile properties are fixed with tile number (ie tile #171 is safe zone, #172 is goal, #176-191 are fly under, etc) level will have additional piece of information called "tile properties" where you can define all kinds of parameters for all the tiles (0-255). Properties for a tile would include:
    * special tile functions: safe zone, goal, door, etc
    * tile type solid or passable
    * layer for that tile, fly over, fly under, etc
    * color it is shown on radar
    * extra stuff like tiles that doesn't allow antiwarp, tiles that doesn't allow mines, etc
    * tile angle
    * etc

    2. Support for 16 or whatever bit graphics is easy too but there are several problem with that:
    * main problem: lack of graphics artists contributing to Subspace. I mean we have searched for people to re-do Continuum graphics, but haven't found nobody, at least nobody good. And beeing good when doing graphics is more important than number of colors.
    * download size for lvl and lvz-s will go up. there is already some whining about it

    3. Also easy from programming perspective, only problem for users finding free key combinations for it :)

    Suggestion #3 was for strafing, ie: going left/right without turning

    4. It makes sense only if you are viewing game board at the angle just like in Infantry. And what is the point to clone Infantry, go play it at Sony online if you like it :)

    Suggestion was to have vertical bouncing bombs, such as with some of infantry's weapons

    Infantry / Cosmic Rift going Pay - [Mine GO BOOM]

    As some of you may know, Infantry and Cosmic Rift are going pay on May 1st, 2002. This will mean they will lose a few players due to people being cheap (as most of us seem to be, since we are playing a free game), so this may mean more people coming and trying subspace/continuum since they are similar games. Which could mean more players that know sort of what they are doing. So, try and get your cosmic rift/infantry friends to play continuum, since we are free, and they are not. :)

    *objset + bot object packets - [Mine GO BOOM]

    As of now (upto version .38pr1), continuum will not handle any object toggling packets (*objset) with more than 1 object. Also, the client will not handle the bot object packets that have been stated in the new subgame. This is NOT a server-side problem, but a client side problem. So until a new continuum is made to handle these packets, *objset is useless as is the bot object packets.


    Subgame 12a and New Directory Server - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Subgame12a has been released, and also a new directory server software. The DirServer's update is it works better with modem users. As for subgame12a, bunch of new things:

    Added proxy detection to /*einfo. Proxy is detected for Continuum 0.37 and later clients. You need to set server IP address in server.ini [Misc] ServerIP for it to work.
    * Undetermined - SS 1.3x or Continuum 0.36 clients
    * SOCKS5 proxy - User is using Continuum's built in SOCKS5 proxy
    * Using proxy at localhost - player is using proxy ran in same machine as Continuum client. There is no other reason to do so than monitoring or tampering with packet stream
    * Using custom proxy - player is using custom proxy. Suspect cheating.
    * Using NAT - player is using router or firewall doing NAT translation
    * Not using proxy - no proxy was detected between client and server

    Fixed timer desync and slow FPS sysop messages. Before "Unknown interity violation" was displayed

    New cfg variable: Misc:StartInSpec - if set, players entering arena are always put to spectator mode

    New server.ini variable: Misc:ForceContinuumOnly - if set server will ignore ContinuumOnly variable is all cfg files and require Continuum in all arenas

    New command: *objset +/-(object id),+/-(object id0,... - sets state of listed map/screen objects. +(object id) shows object and -(object id) hides it. For example "*objset +1,-20,+13" shows objects 1 and 13 and hides object 20.
    Command is meant to replace *objon and *objoff commands and it can be sent to player privately or to whole arena. Command is meant for humans to use, for bots there is special packet for toggling objects states which is much more efficient. See BuildLevel documentation for more info about the objects.     Tommorrow, you should notice that continuum .38 prerelease version will be made public. Since most people that read this webpage and these news posts are those that run servers, I will post something that relates to it here.

    All prereleases have NO security checks in them. This means that you cannot use any prereleases as a subgame continuum loader.

    In other words, the only zone you can connect to without having names in VIP or being a Smod/Sysop is the SSCU Continuum testing zone.



    LvzToolKit Fix - [Mine GO BOOM]

    The LVZToolKit.zip's DeBuildLevel program was fixed for older 9x users. If the file you tried to double-click or drag-and-drop was in a long named folder, the OS sent ~ to the exe, which made it unabled to run it. The MakeLevel program in there does not have this fix for it, since it is just a crappy tester I made, and I'm hoping soon for someone to email me a very nice LVZ compiler/decompiler or both in one. GUIs not required, but they look oh-so-pretty.

    Thanks to the Smod in 17th Parallel for finding this bug in the program. Best of luck to the programmers out there hopefully working on a nicer .lvz maker.



    Continuum .37 Zone Upgrader - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Here is a description of my zone, SFSS Warzone Turf:
    When you play SFSS Warzone Turf, you must use all your skills of teamwork, base flagging and warzone dogfighting. If you do not wish to take part in the flag game provided and just like to kill people, thats fine, but take note that you will not recieve any points for killing. You will however get a good rec and be considered an expert warzone player. If you prefer to take part in the flag game, thats fine too. This is the only way to get points in Warzone Turf. There is one "pick-up" flag which you then take to one of the many bases, and you and your team-mates must defend this flag for 1 point every 2 minutes. There is the opportunity for you and your friends to create your own freq so the warzone fighters dont benefit from your teams hard work :)
    NOTE: This is not a newbie "super" zone!

    Its on all (or most of) the current Directory servers so you have no excuse! check it out

    Subgame 12 - Prerelease 4 Preview - [Mine GO BOOM]

    The private testing subgame version 12 is upto a prerelease version of 4 now. Just to give you a few updates on what it fixes:

  • VIP password now lets players bypass security checks like vip.txt does. So in a continuum only zone, can give the VIP password to a user, and they can use VIE client.
  • LevelFiles can now be optional, if they are in the .cfg as a + before file name. Continuum client has an option to bypass optional files, so now zones like StarWars can have an optional ship pictures, but certain bong files are forced. Helps with people with low bandwidth connections.
  • CFG Varible, Misc:MinUsage. Allows certain arenas/zones to only be playable to 'vets', with min usage. Great for some subarenas where you are having dueling leagues (ie: TW's events) where you do not want random newbies, or people to create new random names, to play in.
  • Team Sounds. Bong150.wa2 - Bong255.wa2 are allowed to be played via anyone for team messages. This is allowed so you can have an optional sound settings for your zone to play sounds like a #150 be "BASE IS RED" or something such as this.
  • Mod *watchdamage command - Allows moderators to see your 'damage' you take from other users. Will display how much damage you took, for what weapon, shot by who, and how much energy you had before the damage.

    Continuum .37 + Subgame12 soon - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Well, .37 and subgame12 (both pre-releases) have been sent to the subspace council. I'll give you guys a head-start on whats going to be new (and LOTS will be server-side):

  • New Level Building Program (BuildLevel). Allows you to send to client your own customized sounds, images, and lots of other neat junk, including an all-new "object" special. This allows mods+ on the server to turn on certain "objects" for any certain players, or all. Can also be turned off. Allows for lots of neat stuff..
  • Print Screen SHOULD work for everyone now.
  • Client Proxy Support
  • Load ship images from ship1.bm2 to ship8.bm2. If any of those files not found, will load from ships.bm2 for those ships. This allows ships to be different sizes, and for this next reason.
  • [ship]:Radius. Normal subspace has ships radius (distance from center of ship that is 'hitable' by things) as 14. In continuum .37, now you can customize it. So you want ships to fit through 1 tile things? Want your fat capital ship to only fit through 4 tile wide things? Now you can, and with server-side ship images, you can make them LOOK their size too.
  • Server to Client clock sync better. New command to view it, /*tinfo. Used to help detect cheaters using proxys to delay packets.
  • *objon [object id] - Used with the ID set for an object in BuildLevel to turn that object on for a certain player (sent privately) or for everyone (sent public).
  • *oboff [object id] - Turns it off. Can be private or public.
  • Misc:LevelFiles, a Server.ini varible. List .lvz (BuildLevel output files), split by commas, to be sent to client. These will be the ship images, help files, sounds, etc that you build into a .lvz file.
  • Misc:AllowVIEClients. A server.ini varible. If set to 0, no VIE clients allowed into zone. If set to 1 (or not listed in .ini), VIEs can connect.
  • New server file, vip.txt. List names in here like moderate.txt's and such, and these people can enter the zone with VIE client, even if AllowVIEClients is 0, or the arena's cfg setting to block continuum uses is on. In other words, good for allowing VIE protocol bots into a continuum-only zone. This file also allows newer continuum versions into the zone without needing smod/sysop passwords. If zone is not connected to a billing server, will not use the file (like the moderate.txt).

    Also, the Server Help staff will be working its hardest in the next few days/weeks to try and create as many documents and help files on how to use the new features in this BuildLevel program.

  • Fixed bug where could send private messages to people in other arenas without your name being seen
  • *relkill # [Mod command] - If set to 1, you will get all kill message reliable, no matter what (great for bots). If set to 0, back to normal < 200, no reliable kills.
  • /*bandwidth <#> [Sysop command] - Private message to send to players, will set their CutbackWatermark for just them. Will override the Latency:CutbackWatermark. The number to use in *bandwidth is how many data per second they would max at.


  • Why SSCX was down - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Wanna know why SSCX was down? Well, from a souce who found a source inside the SSCX building said that while Xalimar (SSCX Host) was away for a bit, the machine running all those laggy zones was beeping, so the network operator shut the computer down. After a while, it was turned back on, but no programs were ran, until I assume, Xalimar popped them back up.

    Moral of this story: Yank out those crappy built-in speakers if your hosting stuff in a building like that. :)

    BanG Mini Update (And new billing command) - [Mine GO BOOM]

    BanG has had a mini update added to it. Each zone now gets to have a 1000 userinfo saved for it, so you can ban names that are not online, but were one of 1000 last people to log into that zone. Now, so if a cheater jumps right before you hit enter on that ?ban NAME, it will still ban him with his last login info as if he was there.

    Also, ?message and ?messages have been finnally officially released. For info on how to use it, look in the commands page under the list of ? commands, it is the last two in the list, right above the sysop commands.

    Continuum F1 Help Screen - Updated - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Upon suggestion from PLATINUM-HALO, Sysop of SSCX SCF West and T3 Apocalyptic Warfare (SSCC), Server Help now has a downloadable update for continuum's F1 help screen. Once saved to your continuum folder, this file will append all * and BanG commands to your F1 menu in game. So now you can look up a rare * command, or figure out which prize number is for a certain item, or just refresh your BanG command switch usage in game without having to go look up a website or find a printed page.

    I've been following this client in development for a while. Snrrrub is building an SS client that is going to run under Linux. So for all you SS addicts that have been holding on to windows just to play SS you can plan on switching OS sometime soon. It's presently still in it's alpha stages, since Snrrrub hasen't finished his development of the client yet. It's current version: 0.3.     Subgame 11e - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Subgame version 1.34.11e has been released. Mostly a few crash bugs fixed. Yes, both c and d we not released publicly, as they were tested for SSC zones only, but 11e is being released publicly. The only non-crash bugs really fixed is the public-freq evener. Now when there are teams 0, 1, and 400, where freq 0 has 7 people and 1 has 2 people, people will enter ships to freq 1, not 0 anymore.

    CSS StarKnights (SK) first started out as a lan game, that several friends and myself used to play for long periods of time, but now I've brought this great zone out to all the community of SS. SK is a faced-paced, action filled zone, where you may kill and explore for the 16 flags. If that does not suit your style, you may score goals in one of the four goals, or just fly around killing people. All ships in the zone are even, with each having some advantage over all the others. It's super fast and Super fun with Super ships.

    Well, not sure how much I should post on this, but something neat going on in subspace council.. A person (Kevin B.) has emailed us asking if we would like to help them extend subspace into a peer to peer game, and he has the backing (money wise) from a few other companies if this is possible..

    Sorry, but, LOL! VIE died out, and twister ran rampant even when there was a local server hosting it.. think about peer to peer.. hell, the p2p software out now still is being hacked a lot and designed to send viruses to anyone and everyone.. think about subspace, peer to peer, with half the people running 56k connections (or less)... Oh well.. just a neat little note. We ask for help from them for 2+ yrs, finnally after we have our own client, they contact us for assistance..

    Zone Launch - [MichaelCanuck]

    The ExSU Star Trek(SSWC) is launching on Saturday, June 30th at 4:00 PM EST and to kick start it, all attendees will get... uh... bounty. Lots of bounty!
    Formerly the Star Trek Zone, ExSU Star Trek is a turf-style map of the Star Trek universe with flags at key points (180 in all. Its not intended to be won, and you get enough points for just holding them, but if it is won then you'll get LOTS of points, and I do mean LOTS of points). The ships are based on a shipset, downloadable from www.gcstartrek.com.
    The most notable ships are the Borg Cube (ship 8, the shark) which has little thrust, extreme afterburners, no guns, but is the only ship to be able to have turrets (12 max). The Turret(ship 7, the Lancaster) has no engines, L3 bombs and guns, and is the only ship that can attach to another. All other ships are different from one another while still being balanced. Both the map and settings have been complimented on by many people.
    Anyways, come out on Saturday for the launch of ExSU Star Trek(SSWC).

    SFSS Warzone Turf - [jsb]

    SFSS Warzone Turf is my new zone, and is just like the name implies. It has a full-scale Warzone map using my own tileset, which includes Duelling arenas, goals and territory bases. It has a huge Turf base with 30 flags which would challenge even the most skilled players. The ship settings are close-to-VIE standard, only slightly more powerful/faster and have been modified to suit both styles of gameplay. Other things SFSS Warzone Turf includes are King of the Hill, PowewrBall upgrades, massive Kill points, big flagging rewards (1000 points per flag, every 2 minutes) and most importantly of all, its fun.
    It can be found by clicking the "ZONES" button in the continuum client and its on every directory server plus subspace.ds98.com.
    Also in the future will include an Elim arena as well as various other arenas, providing enough regular players turn out. So take 5 minutes and check us out.

    Next DirServer (0.3) - [Mine GO BOOM]

    The only updates in this version of the directory server is zone passwords. Once a zone connects to dirserver, the first word is then set with the directory password set in that zone's server.ini. If another zone trys to connect with the first word the same as this one, and different password, won't work. IE:
    'LiK Chaos' connects with pw '2', dirserver now sets password for 'LiK' to '2'.
    'LiK Warzone' trys to connect with '3', dirserver does not add them to zone list.
    'LiK Chaos' shuts down, the 'LiK' pw is cleared.
    'LiK Warzone' trys to connect with '3', and works, with 'LiK' now set to '3'.

    NOTE: The dirserver will only remove the zone password once ALL zones with that starting name are removed. So if 'LiK Speed' pops in while 'LiK Chaos' is there, and the chaos one leaves, the password for 'LiK' is still '2'.

    Continuum .36 Frame Rate Problem - [Mine GO BOOM]

    A lot have noticed that the frame rates are bad in .36. Here is priitk on how to help this:

    Problem: FPS in Continuum 0.36 is much worse than in 0.35
    Cause: Most likely cause it that there are some troubleshooting options enabled in advanced options
    Fix: Go to Options -> Advanced options and clear all checkboxes. Note that best FPS is synchronized you your monitor refresh rate, typically 60-85 (you can set it in profile too). Anything below that is not good and anything above that is not good either

    When zipping up the subgame 11 files, I zipped up the wrong files from the wrong folder, so those that updated before this message is posted here downloaded the wrong upgrade, as a few have noted on the server help board. Sorry to all those that got it then..

    As a little reward (or something), I included into the REAL subgame11 zips continuum.exe (renamed to subspace.exe) and upgrade.exe into nice little \version1\ folders so it is even easier to upgrade your subgames to newest version and get continuum upgraded too. The only problem with this is fatter d/ls (well, not too bad)...

  • 1: If the .cfg file's Flag:FlagRewardMode is set to 1, then the teams with victories will ALWAYS get the jackpot * max/number.

    The big different in this: If a team max is 8, and a team wins with only 3 people, it won't be limited to only 2x the jackpot, will now be 2.66x the jackpot.

    SSCW has changed its name to SSWC. It seems that there was a bit of confusion as to who hosting the billing. Some were confusing SubSpace Central Billing (SSC_) with SubSpace Conference West (SSCW). The actual name of SSWC is "SubSpace Conference West". This leaves room for other conferences to open in other parts of the USA and worldwide (i.e. SSCE - for East, SSCC - for Central, SSCEur - for Europe...you get the idea)

    GC server is now hosting zones. We have room for two more zones so if you think you have a good zone, tell us and we will host it for around two weeks. If you have regular players in your zone within that time, we wont take it down.
    The server is a Tier 1, it has a minimum of 1 Gigabyte of bandwidth, so there shouldnt be much lag.
    My zone is on the same server, its called GC Warzone Turf and its well worth a look. We also host the cool GC Star Trek zone, so oyu should check that out as well.

    As a request from someone over in Pro League trying to get ?go jackpot's scores/stats, I took a little bit of time and recorded some data on how .scr files save stats, since no one else has it written down anywhere.

    Little note to programmers: If anyone could, would someone make a program to decode .scr files in combo with the billing user.dat files, so private-run zones could get stats for this? I myself have made a little mini script to combind logs from a bot recording player's names/squads/userids and pro league's .scr file to make a little database for them, but I'm sure others would like a more user-friendly method.

    New subgame version 1.34.9 is now released. Go to my Downloads page for the link to either the new server.zip or the subgame9.zip file for the updates you need.

    Only few new commands. *einfo shows client, *flags for mod, and /*greeninfo for mods. More info on them in the commands page.

    BTW: Commands page WILL be updating every so often with new Continuum commands. These commands will be shown in the '?' command section near its bottom. Just to give you guys a hint.. :)

    Zone Security - [MnM{333}]

    Recently... While reading my Sysop commands attentively I've discovered a small problem conserning zone security... or at least...your settings security. This problem happens when a player forms a sub-arena... When creating this sub-arena he will be granted ownership of that sub-arena... and this way... he can ?getsettings... and copy your map and settings to a new server...Many zones haven't been protected against this yet... all you must do is block off sub-arenas to Staff...

    Due to a big bug exploited a few days ago to SSC zones, someone pissed off priitk, and now we have subgame 1.34.8.

    New features:
    -Fixed bugs for different hack attackes.
    -Sysop public *lag command will now tell everyone's average lag (good for getting a bot to auto-spec laggers, hint hint someone).
    -?getnews only works while your in spec now. No more free lag.



    New Billing Command - [Mine GO BOOM]

    When the next billing recycle (aka scorereset) happens, squadowners will get a new kick-ass command thats been suggested many times before. ?squadlist shows all people on your squad. Only a squad owner can use this command. Very good combo with ?squadkick :)

    Also, some other filler news since this deals with servers (somewhat): ?listban will have a new max limit of how far back it could look (was 100, but has been known to lag subgame-billing connection, new limit so far unknown, but probably 50 or 25).

    Another useless tidbit, specs watching a player will see that player's team's decoys on radar (and their name color) correctly as if they were on that freq. No more specing someone and seeing blue decoys fly out of them.

    Thanx for everyone who has every helped here.     New Billing Commands - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Zone sysops will maybe soon be able to do ** messages (ones where every zone hears it). There will also be a limit on this, where only 1 ** can come from a zone in every 10 mins. Also, players can toggle off seeing these by typing ?announce (toggles seeing these sysop's message on or off, defualts to being on). Some may worry that this will cause lots of spam, but I believe these sysops won't spam it if they want to keep their zones. This feature is being added for zone sysops to announce their one-in-a-blue-moon events to everyone. Say Dueling Zone had their competition again for real money, a zone sysop can do a ** and announce that the last duel for real prizes is starting soon. I see this as being helpful, and if abused, will be taken away quickly I'm sure.

    From the SubSpace Council:

    The reason we removed SDB is simple. It doesn't have to do with freedom of speech, or democracy, or any other high minded philosophies. SSC stops cheating by keeping the server software secure. SDB allowed debugging of the software, therefor they were removed.

    We do not control subspace or anything else of that nature. SDB is welcome to get hosted elsewhere; it still possesses the right to exist. It *has* waved the right to access to our secure server software however. SDB abused the SSC and we took the only step we could to stop the abuse.

    SubGame 1.34.7b Info - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Subgame .7b will be made public. This .7b will have a few extra anti-cheat detections in it, and will be allowed for public downloading. I'm still as always trying to get priitk to add in little features, like the 'alret list' feature. Hopefully he will make something like this, where all alret messages (?cheater, etc) will be sent to online mods like usual, and also those on the mod.txt/etc or maybe alret.txt. NOTE: This feature is not added, and may never be added, but just one I'm trying to work into .7b.


    SubGame 1.34.7 Info - [Mine GO BOOM]

    I'm not 100% sure what info I'm allowed to release, so posting just some of the basic info.

  • A new protection for spamming the zone is put into place, mostly for bots. Can't give info what triggers it, but your ISP is banned from zone for a little while.
  • Fast bomb detection. Sysops can now allow any/all/none of the following things to happen whenever someone trys to fast bomb (you know, the repel/bomb trick for quick-fire bombs):
    a) Sysop red message warning (like a cheater warning) that displays to online sysops, and also logged to *log. The number after Possible Fastbombing is the time in ms from the two bomb packets (how fast they fasted bomb, divine.216 got a 43 ms, highest I've seen so far), then their name in (), then machineid in (), then ip in (), then packet number.
    b) Filter out the fast bombs. Means if someone fast bombs, and they have the first bomb and the fast bomb, no one else would ever see the second 'fast' bomb, only the first. Very neat feature.
    c) Kick player out like they were a cheater. Acts just like a *kill.
  • Now more ?cheater type messages. Well, the sysops can now allow more names for what they can be. Zones would post this in their news.txt. Like SSCX A Small Warzone has ?cheater for cheater type messages, ?help for asking for help, and ?whine for everything else. Doesn't do much, but allows the player to have a topic with their messages to online-mods other than a cheater.
  • All those ?cheater, etc commands now put into sysop log (*log), so don't go spamming it, they have records. ;)
  • Some zones may now have 'local' chats. This is very complicated to explain. What it is is now, say the zone has setup in their server.ini the channel 'sysop' to be a local chat. So now, if someone in another zone in ?chat=sysop talks, those where its local cannot see it. Those in the local channel cannot message those in the 'global' channel sysop in the other zone. If still confussed, thing if it as if all local channels makes those channels have a .ZONENAME added to the end of the chat channel name. Zones SHOULD post what channels they made local in their news.txt. Most zones do not use this feature currently.
  • A sysop of a zone can now make EVERYONE have forced obscene message checking on (ie: block out bad words in messages). Also along this line, if the forced obscene checking isn't on, you can type in-zone ?obscene to turn it on/off. Good if everyone cursing like crap and parent comes into room.
  • ?find has an extra step into it. If that player is in the same zone as your in, it prints what arena they are in. If in a private arena, just says 'private arena'. If your a mod, it will show their #arenaname.
  • All those ^Banned people can't type a message in that seconds from entering zone to being in zone to get instantly kicked. So no more messages from ^Banned. Also, they are locked into spec perm now.
  • Scoreresets will now not require zone-recyles. This is one of those SSC-only things that is keeping .7 out of public use, and will be a nice feature. No more 30-min score recycles, now everyones scores go bye-bye without ever leavnig zone.
  • Those for Trench Wars know this now, sysops can limit res size of players. They can set it any limit (ie: 555x222, 1024x768, etc) or none.

    Just a little hint to those of you wanting .7 for yourselves (fast-bombing checking rules) is because Priitk is working with Tic0 to making a linux version for everyone with all the features as this, and also including more features. So just wait a month or two, and you'll get a 50 times better subgame. I'm going to get them to try to make this linux server to run under windows for those of you without a linux box.

    Well, all those TheCounter.com emails been coming for last year(s), and not counting in the days of 0 when their site is down, for last month I have had 100+ people visit this site a day (2678/26(4 days of 0 downtime) = 103). This counts NONE of me since I have that cookie they give you to disable counting yourself. I'm probably soon going to see the ratio of people read this main page with news to the people looking at Server Board. Just want to say after soon to be in a few months 2 years, I'm suprised that there are still this many people making zones and needing help. Keep SS alive, and keep those zone ideas coming. ;) Who knows, maybe I can get one of your SS zone ideas into hyperspace...

Peace of crap keyboard, but oh well. Worked very little on fantasy subspace season (except on plane, stupid 2 hr delay stuff, and delayed food).   • 5 additional chats. If I [PriitK] can get 2 digit chat prefixes to work (I hope it is game server side fix), then I make it unlimited.
  • ?squadowner (squad name) command -- tells owner of squad
  • ?squadgrant (player name) command -- gives ownership of squad you are currently in to
    specified player. Squad owner command
  • squad owner can rejoin squad with any password
  • server security: each zone server has its own connect password now (although it is currently set to same for all servers)
  • operator security: each biller op has own password and can use it only with fixed login name. also op commands are divided to groups (global messaging, user account managment, squad managment, server managment and biller op managment) and access to these command groups can be specified per op
  • user account managment commands: see info, change password, rename user
  • squad managment commands: rename squad, change ownership of squad
  • global messaging. in addition to regular ** broadcast there is command biller op can send message to group of zones
  • Form to fill out for names now only requires 1 letter in name, and the email to have a @ and . in it.


  • Bot News - [Mine GO BOOM]

    If you notice now, there should be a pretty colored box with (at this time of writting, only one) a few lines. Each line has the bot coder with email linked, date of last news posted, and a link to a page with some info about him/her and all the news they posted for bots. So far only Grelminar and UtopiC (which has yet to post something) are using it to post infomation about what they are doing and how far along they are with their bots. If you too are a bot making or someone doing something important for subspace (like making a new ssbilling or designing a public access bot) and would want a status line for yourself, just email me a username/pw you want, a name and email you want displayed, your site's url (if any), some extra info about yourself, and some try of proof that you are doing something that you would post info about.


    SSC Billing Help - [Mine GO BOOM]

    For all of you getting that form to keep filling out, here is your fix:

    For the name, it HAS to have a first name of 2 letters or longer, and a last name of 2 letters or longer. For the email, it HAS to have a @ and a . in it. If you don't want to really fill it in, put in John Doe with email john@doe.com.

    If you don't put this in correctly, you may lose your score, and any squad ownership (this is an error) you have. Please fill it in, even if not truthfully.

    I suggest putting in a real email address you could check, since the ONLY time it would be used is whenever the guys at the billing (BD Vine) is doing the every-six-month-cleaning of the billing to remove old unused names or squads, if it has an email, they will email BEFORE the name/squad is removed. If get a reply back, won't remove. If no reply within 7 days, will be removed.

    Also about the chats. You get up to 10 (IE: ?chat=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), but the 10th chat is a listen only channel. Right now ;*; will only take the first digit after the first ;. So ;10; WILL send to chat channel 1. ;0; won't do anything either. So whatever chat is in #10, you can only hear the chat, but cannot reply back to it. They are trying to fix it, and maybe get chats up to an unlimited number, but thats how it is now.

    Yes, everytime you enter a zone, whatever case you are currently using WILL be the case you will have in the zone. Priitk made the bot use not the name sorted in billing, but the one sent to billing for the zone data. Now you can finnaly case your name how you want it.

    Also the score resets will now be almost instantly. Priitk designed a feature so now it only needs 1 billing recycle. So in 5 mins tops, all scores can be reseted.

    The billing ops (all 5 or so of them that have the ?login, not bang ops) will be able to change names/squads data while in the zone. They havn't made a set rule for how they will follow for this, but soon they will be able to quickly change access for things like setting a name to a squad and giving him ownership of that squad or changing a squad's case. More on this later when they figure the best way to have rules to do this.



    SSC billing -> VIE/BanG billing - [Mine GO BOOM]

    SSC billing has now been mixed with the coding for VIE billing. Through doing this, priitk has caused some small errors, and some good things.

    Warning to people, if you have to fill out that form more than once, you have an errored name. Just email me the name your using for it, and I'll try to get that fixed.

    If you don't want to fill out the form, just put something like "hi" and "hi@aol.com". If you want to fill it out, go ahead. Only requires a name and email.

    NOTE: Some 'good' things that comes of this is that you are now allowed more than 5 chats. Max chat channels is 10. Also, the billing WILL allow you to have different case names currently (if your name used to have all caps and you can login with all lowercase, etc).

    Well, with all these people making bots for subspace and all, some wanting to make codes public, some just wanting to make bots for people, I guess I'll try and get in the middle of it by making this server help page (which is a help for anything with subspace really) a medium for all those with bots and all.

    So what I'm suggesting is to make a CGI so on the front page (index.html) above the news, it would have a little info about the bot makers, a headline for them, and a page for more information about that headline. Kind of like what I have running for my Fantasy SubSpace over at SS Impact. If you, the bot creators, would like to be posting info about your bots there in a header saying what step of creations your on, lastest releases, etc, just email me at murphyj@cvn.net.

    Things I would need from you if you are willing to do this:

  • The name for which you would want for the main page. Like Catid, etc.
  • If you want your name linked to a page, the url (your email, website, etc).
  • Either a working bot or a source code made by you so I know your truely a bot maker (zipped please).

    FACT - Best program for levels since SSME - [Mine GO BOOM]

    FACT - Stands for something, its listed at the site - http://ss.ClayJar.com/

    DOWNLOAD that program if you are anywhere close to ever using lvl's or settings. That program is a BIG help to a mapper or settings person. Have a .lvl, but you want to have a pretty text or drawing added to it? Well, SSME sucks at that, so use fact to convert to a huge .bmp (each pixel = 1 tile on .lvl). Then, use text or draw your pretty image you want on the radar, save, then convert to .lvl. Even saves what tiles you used, but you'll have to import your old tileset back in.

    Have a .set you want into .cfg for your zone? Have a server.cfg but can only ?setsettings server.set your settings up? FACTs does that too, converts to and from.

    Trust me, FACTs is a small program that you will love!

    If you are good with making page layouts, and can get the colors of the text and everything to look nice, and you work for free (will give stuff other than $$ maybe), I need your help. The Seasonal fantasy needs to have text images, and the layout needs to be more 'flexable'.

    Some Public Bots - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Well, someone made an elim bot for all you people. Go to http://venus.spaceports.com/~catid/catid.html to see his list of SS programs, and other programs he made.

    As a side note: DO NOT USE ANY BOTS IN LEAGUES! Unless your an admin/ref and have been approved, if you do use bots in leagues, and some other zones (think alpha and chaos also like this), you WILL BE BANNED. The sysops of a lot of zones do not want users to use bots in their zones. Bots like the one that hits home rapidly will get you banned. I suggest you don't use this type of things in zones. First ask a mod or smod or sysop, and see if they would allow it.

    Unless the news of the zone says they allow bots, don't use them in any SSC zone without permission. I don't want to see hunderds of people getting banned due to using bots.

    Well, since this is a SS site, and i did make another cgi file (damn i'm always bored), i might as well state it here too...

    As i've been saying for last month(s), i've been working on a large CGI project that will fantasize both SubSpace and Infantry Leagues, like Smallworld.com has done for real sports. Since they won't give me their cgis, or create a new page for ss/infantry, i'm making my own with suggests from players. To tell truth, i havn't done very much to the cgi in a while, but i worked on one sub-part of it, the Playoffs, since Pro League getting there now. (I'm a ref there, might as well do something)

    Bomb Calculator - [Mine GO BOOM]

    If you look to your left, you should see a new image above the Infantry Server Help link called Bomb Calc. That is a cgi i made that will calculate bomb damage (no shrap, sharp damage always random, so no reason to do that) for ANY settings you want (have 2 defaults in there, but allow inputs). That image inside the cgi to click for damage, it allows upto 250 pixels away from ship (L4 VIE = 320, L3 VIE = 240), so should be good enough.


    FAQ/Commands Update - [Mine GO BOOM]

    FAQ for SubGame2 section updated for new subgame coming out, and commands list (both html and text format) have been updated. The commands page also now has billing sysop again, and bang commands with descriptions for all those people who want to know about it.

    A worthy note, all *get/*put commands (not counting the two smod ones for permit and mod texts) have been removed. Now you use *get/put/delfile (filename) to do those things, also allowing you to get those logs and subarena settings.



    Subgame 1.34.5 - [Mine GO BOOM]

    In subgame 1.34.5 so far:

    • New .cfg variables:
      • Misc:MaxPlayers. Overrides server.ini's Arena:ArenaMaxPlayers variable for a spawn.
      • Misc:GreetMessage. It is sent to player when s/he enters spawn which will appear exactly like a *arena, but only sent to them.
      • Misc:PeriodicMessage0, Misc:PeriodicMessage1, Misc:PeriodicMessage2, Misc:PeriodicMessage3, Misc:PeriodicMessage4. Must be set like: 'period' 'delay' [*]'text'
        If set and players are in spawn s starting with * are sent out as zone messages and without * as arena messages. are in minutes, indicates when first message is sent after arena creation.
        • Examples:
          • [Misc] PeriodicMessage0=6000 3000 If you see a cheater, report him by ?cheater. Will display 'If you...?cheater' every minute, starting it 30 secs after the arena is create (like after someone does a ?go blah, and no one is there).
          • [Misc] PeriodicMessage2=6000 3000 *If you see a cheater, report him by ?cheater. Will do same as before, but will do it like *zone, not like before where would be only arena.

    • Server.ini settings:
      • Misc:ShipTypeSwitchResetPeriod. If set non-zero player shipchange counters are reset in given period. It allows to set Security:MaxShipTypeSwitchCount low to kick out players that use ship changes to get good configuration or spawning spot.

    • New Commands:
      • *watchgreen - (private only, mod+ access) - Will message you every green that player gets at that time until you leave or turn it off.
      • *einfo - (private) - Displays player billing user id and screen resolution. Good when trying to get player's ?userid#.
      • *packetloss - (private, mod+) - Displays player packetloss.
      • ?lag - (everyone can do) - Displays ping and packetloss.
      • *getfile, *putfile and *delfile - (public only, sysop) - Allow sysop to get/put/delete files from server directory. exe, com, dll, bat and cmd files are offlimits. NOTE: Does NOT allow you to do anything to a player's system, only to server.
      • *listban - (public, mod+) - Lists all active /*kill bans with machine id, time in seconds since ban was made, ban length in seconds.
      • *removeban 'machineid' - (public, mod+) -Removes a /*kill 'minutes' ban

    • Following commands were removed:
      • *get/putsysoplist, *get/putsmodlist,
        *get/putnews, *get/putobscene.


    Stupid Chances - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Well.. 1.34.5 will come within a week most likely, with no bots. But does have a few bot like things (like messages when people enter arena, and message displayed every 5 mins or so). All the features are:

  • Whenever a player enters an arena, the server will send him a *arena command type thing only he will see. Each subarena will be customizable.
  • Each subarena can have max player count. Say, like for SCF, the main arena can have 50 people in the arena, ?go aswz can only have 16, each of the ?go speed will have max of 5. Good for different subarena type things.
  • For shipchanges, the server.cfg already has option to kick people who change too often. Well, now you can have a time frame for it. Say you don't want people to change ships 5 times every minute, set shipchange to 5, and the timer to 6000. Or you don't want a max, set timer to 0 or 1 (0 probly cause errors like the supertimers).
  • Periodic zone/arena messages. So you want an arena that will say "Hello" every ten minutes, can do it. Want the whole zone to recieve some *zone If you see a cheater, type ?cheater [name] every 10 mins, can do that. So this like a mini-bot ability.
  • /*tracegreen (private only, can't do to all i believe) - Will tell mod/smod/sysop, the person who used it, what greens the person gets. Good if you think someone is getting all these cheating greens by twister, since it is hard to truly tell. So know you know if this is that guy greening prox to everyone, or the man in ASWZ give the team thors.


  • New Subgame Soon (and future of SS) - [Mine GO BOOM]

    A new subgame (1.34.5) MAYBE coming out sometime, but the date isn't set yet. Don't expect it out for a little bit. Just as a little teaser, this subgame has a good chance of having a few 'bot type features in it. A good chance... i know i said that about the .4 subgame, but that was really low. Hopefully this .5 will have it, since i'm getting lots of requests (email, icq, message board, in SS, no phone calls yet thankfully) for either the bot's source code, the .exe itself, or to have a bot hosted from where all those other bots are at to be in their zone.

    In other news, there is also a good chance (hears with the good chances again) that Harmless Games maybe owning subspace soon. Good or bad, i think it will increase the amount of players (yeh! maybe more than 5 people will come to Slayfest!). If this does happen, both Infantry and Subspace will have a combinded billing servers avaliable. Course, their will always be other billing servers, but the fact your ?chats can have >5 chats and can spam those infantry players at the same time always good.

    If that does happen, Harmless owning SS, SubSpace will be getting a new version out. It would be unknown, but hopefully a chance (chance apon chances alot now a days) that this new version will also be with subgame too, so it would be public. If not, i surely hope their is the chance that it, new subspace, would work with older one?

    Hmm.. all these chances... well.. what the hell would new subspace version be? Already have 1.34, and 1.35... there was the 2.00 bad hack one out... hmm... maybe subspace 1.36? 1.5? 3? Oh well... be funny with all these #.##'s out :P

    I just noticed, the last time when i fixed server.zip to have 1.34.4 subgame, i forgot to change it to the correct settings. So all you people getting lagouts due to packet hackings and such is because of my settings... Please either delete the server.cfg file (subgame will auto-create a new normal one next time you run it) or download from my download list the server.cfg file...

    I'm very sorry all whole downloaded server.zip to find this out, but the settings only work well if everyone sysop or in offline mode. Sorry.

    ?packetloss maybe more confusing coming up soon. Priitk, due to so many requests for a slow packet detector maybe adding an extra text to the end of what ?packetloss will show. Start from his mouth:

    "Client sends '?packetloss' text to server and server responds with 'PACKET LOSS ServerToYou...' text..."

    And that extra text will have slow packets. The only way right now to see it is in *info, but not everyone has smod/sysop everywhere.



    Infantry Server Help - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Infantry Server Help, from the maker of Server Help for SubSpace, is now open to the public after a week of me creating some cgi for it and all. ISH (Infantry Server Help) still isn't complete, but will be worked on over time like Server Help for SubSpace. The FAQ isn't complete, there isn't any downloads from the site, but it is a good source for help by Message Board or Email. As this goes on, the FAQ will get nice and big.

So, if you set Flag:FlagTerritoryRadius to 0 and Misc:TimerDropFlagTerritoryRadius to 8 flags will be respawned on freq/ship change

    'Smallworld' SubSpace - [Mine GO BOOM]

    Yes yes yes... i know i'm good with CGI :)

    I am currently in the process of making a Fanasty Subspace cgi program, simmilar to Smallworld's games. It isn't done, but i would like to have a good idea of how many people would like to play this game. It will be very simmilar (with fake money, buy players, etc) but instead of those crappy baseball (and now football) games, it will be SS Pro League Fanasty stuff. :) I have asked Ghost Ship about getting the stats from games, and it will be possible. The fanasty game will be free, but i'll have some ads for you guys to click on so you can get free fake money for the games (and me get some $$$ to maybe start paying for shanky.com).

    READ ALL ABOUT IT! BUG FOUND IN SS! PEOPLE MAKING DIFFERENT FREQ TURRETS!
    Well.. it is a bug, but not many making turrets out of it. Not THAT good since your turreters/drivers can kill each other, but is funny as hell. What it is is that a driver is on one freq (freq 1) while the person attached is on another freq (freq 0). This isn't powerful, but is another funny thing to see happen. I found this by accident, and only a few know how it works. And so far, only on person can be ther inital turreter, and his name is SHaDoW_STaLKeR-

If you want to see this happen again, just get me and SHaDoW_STaLKeR- together in the same arena and we'll show you. Maybe do a freak show during this weekend's slayfest on saturday in SCF at 8pm. (BTW, after this pick was taken, i flew out of the safty and killed my turret and got points for it. hehe, how many of you guys can do that?)

    Some news coming soon... - [Mine GO BOOM]

    In the next week or so, the SS Council will be doing some things. As of now, it looks to be for the better. Better banning system, to ban only the cheaters and help stop banning of people who are on the same ISP as a cheater. Zones will be more linked together. Lots of little things that will help SS.

    But for now, i can't really talk about some things. One i can talk about is the German SS. sscentral.gamesonline.de has told us to remove others zone listings from their database. Since they have legally gained access to sell SS to their country and are charging money for it, they don't want freebees like us to take their play database away. So, please remove your zone listings from their database.

    Also, another thing is that they so far don't want the server software getting out more than it has so far. I'm trying to prove that this has been helpful, and should still be distributed like the SS Crack is. But if this doesn't work, i'm going to try and get a zone on SSC to be a zone where anyone could go to their own subarena, and make a zone and upload maps.

    First test for news script! - [Mine GO BOOM]

    This is the first test on a public page with this news script. And i made it all... :)

    So far, everything is working except the Set User Preferances. I just need to get the cookies working with that and everything will be perfect. Also, since i now have a news script with some good features, i will be looking for some people to help post news. If you would like to, email me at murphyj@cvn.net.

    And a good feature that is on here is the suggest news. Anyone can suggest news... just click on that link, fill in the information, and hit the button. Then one of the admins (so far, only me) will be able to read that, and post it if it is true.
