Typing ?lag displays your ping and packetloss in the game.
The ping means the time, in milliseconds (1/1000th of a second) it takes for you to send data to the server, and back. This is a natual delay. If you've ever played Quake, you'll notice the lag, because the higher the ping, the longer delay there is for your to move, when you press a key
In Infantry, this is changed, so instead, everything looks smooth, but the graphics are set so that even if it looks like you hit something, you probably didn't, because the guy isn't there, it only looks like it because of the lag.
In most cases, this isn't even noticable. Pings under 300 are usually ok, <100 is normal for cable modems.
Packetloss is the amount of data that is being lost between you and the server. The more data lost, the less things the server recieves.
If your packetloss to the server is 5% (not good) it means, for about every 100 shots you fire, 5 of them don't affect anyone, but 5% of the shots you take, don't affect you either.
If you have a 33.6, neither of these should effect you, unless JeffP spills coffee on the server box again ;) |
