    I'll be checking.... - [Esotericlete]

    November 4, 2001

Yes, the request links and questions do work, and I will be checking them. This site is terribly outdated, (with references to playing in Beta zone), but it's difficult to help players, when the problem isn't identified.

This site was originally intended to be a general help site, not specifically a server help site. It branched off of the Subspace Server Setup guides, which brings us to the Infantry Server help. No need, ask your questions, and they _will_ be answered, to the best of our ability.

This site isn't dead yet! - [Esotericlete]

    November 4, 2001

The server is still here, I still have admin options, so I'll certainly find ways to make the most of it.

    Keep on watching!

New FAQS and info - [i88gerbils]

    July 20, 2000

Hey there, remember me? I have gone and completed two new faqs under a new header, Map Editor, which will be up when MGB creates the new header. This section will help you with using the map editor when it is released. It is very confusing, and requires advanced knowledge of the features as well as a good computer.

Here's another update. You may not have noticed, but when Infantry was first released in Beta (alpha too probably) the server config files and image files were ALL stored in your Infantry Directory. This has long since been changed, AND they deleted it from your directory. I have an older version, but I cannot update the cfg faq until I get a newer copy of the config file. Doesn't that suck? Oh well.

    Go play Arena. - [Alexiyies]

    July 10, 2000

Server just reset, so the newbies shouldn't get beat to death by level 10's.

    Until tomorrow that is.

    Edit your macros.... - [Alexiyies]

    July 4, 2000

We don't have news. Infantry is alive. However, some people have asked about how to edit your macros. In your infantry directory, find a file called 'default.mac'.

If you can't find any such file, go to the window's find file, and search for *.mac in the infantry directory. This file can be opened in Note/Wordpad and the first line on top would be f1, and going down, f2, f3, and so on. After 12 lines, you will revert to the right shift (If the option in the keyboard config is on). You can somewhat organize your macros this way, you can make copies of the file, rename it, then edit it.

You can proceed to load it up using ?loadmacro nameoffile

Keep in mind that the font in Infantry is different, so ascii art will have to be done within Infantry.

How to adjust your...resolution - [Alexiyies]

    January 28, 2000

This is kind of a hidden option, I haven't added into the faq yet, any idea what category this should belong in?

First, make sure Infantry is closed. Then run the registry (Start Menu => Run => Registry)

Then, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER then the folder [Software] then [Harmlessgames] then, [Options].

On the right side of the screen, are a large list of variables. Two of them are ResolutionX and ResolutionY. Double click on them, and click the 'decimal' value and implement your resolution for each length in pixels.

This'll work for any length up to your maximum resolution, and your minimum. If you stick in 1 and 1 then you'll end up with something like a 400x300 window...

    Free long distance? - [Alexiyies]

    January 25, 2000

No, not that 10-10-321 crap, I think this really work.

at dialpad they are letting you make long distance calls over the internet, for free. Now, you've probably all heard of things like this, but, the reciever doesn't have to be using the computer, the reciever is picked up with the phone!

You register (free) and when you want to make a call, a java applet of a phonepad comes up. Dial your number (or with keyboard) and you can make your call (so 1-areacode-number). You talk through either your speaker, or microphones, and listen through either speaker, or headset (preferred).

Sorry, not that much to do with Infantry, but still worth mentioning. They make money from some advertisements that are in the phonepad. I don't even look at them though ;P

    It's down... - [Alexiyies]

    January 24, 2000

According to Yankee, there is 'behind the scenes' work on the zones, so that's why CTF is down. Maybe the new Arena?...

    Whoa! New arena? - [Alexiyies]

    January 23, 2000

Yep, it looks like it. Those of you who haven't seen what might be coming up, click here

Too bad he misspelt it. Would also explain the lag ;)

Unless you're crazy, it's not your imagination. - [Alexiyies]

    January 21, 2000

If you refresh your list, CTF is back now, but there might also be a second one. On Fridays and Saturdays, there will be a Infantry CTF 2 server. It runs Kiliest's Ridge, and is mainly for scrimmaging and clan games.

If you see it up, and you want some ol' KR, check it out.

Yep, it's still down - [Alexiyies]

    January 20, 2000

According to Yankee, Ctf and The Arena are... well, down. Don't worry, it's not your server list, one player I knew re-downloaded Infantry. Oops.

    Just wait it out...

    Beta's Back - [Alexiyies]

    January 16, 2000

If it's not there, press the refresh button. Maybe if enough of us play there, they won't take it down again.

    Go! :)

    Signups.... - [Alexiyies]

    January 15, 2000

This is somewhat subspace/infantry related. Well, maybe not, but it has the same influence. Check out http://www.klache.com/dock and sign up for the Alpha of Hyperspace. From what we know (and seen) so far, it's going to be a much better subspace, that is going to be always free.

Some of the screenshots are looking very nice indeed, go sign up.

    Again, http://www.klache.com/dock

    New Server Faq - [i88gerbils]

    January 15, 2000

Okay long time no see. I've got a new Faq up in the Server subset faq section. This faq is to help understand the .lio file. It's confusing, I'm still understanding it, and since there's no server software to test it I'm going by my best guesses and a little inside help ( well not really ). Anyways, as things come to me I'll get them up but don't expect anything special =d.

God I wish they will just put in a damn ?sheep command or at least a ?llama.

Y2K news - [Mine GO BOOM]

    December 31, 1999

Ok, year for this news post should now be 2000, not 1999 (have NO clue why the hell it was 1999 of all things).

    Y2K - [Mine GO BOOM]

    December 31, 1999

Well.. this is a test for how good of crap of CGI i have for Y2K. I visited shanky.com at 5 mins after change, showed year 19100 for the time. :P

Testing message boards next... hopefully shows 2000 for year!

Not much news... - [Mine GO BOOM]

    December 30, 1999

Nothing been happening to Infantry that isn't already spoken for about in fifty posts on most news sites... Just posting something to keep atleast one news shown on the index...

If anyone would want to suggest a few FAQs for problems they had and fixed, just click on the left in FAQ, then find on the bottom of page the Suggest FAQ link. Thanx for some of the people's help in suggesting FAQs.

    New FAQ! - [i88gerbils]

    December 15, 1999

i've created a new FAQ for all you fans out there. But i think all i'm going to get for this one is a cool breeze ...har har har very funny gerbil. Anyways the FAQ is about putting your zone onto your zone list so you and your friends can hold a private zone. There's a couple of cool things about it too =d but i won't go into details right now.

Next i'm going to try to figure out what's up with the infantry zonelist server. Probably won't hear from me about that until way off in the 21st century though. I'll start posting other Infantry news too =d.

    Jaa ne!

New Comp - [Mine GO BOOM]

    December 14, 1999

Well, i have gotten a new computer for just myself. If anyone cares, it is a Sharp Mobilon TriPad (PV6000). It is a handheld computer (like a lighter, less powerful notebook) that uses WinCE. It is all mine since i bought it, so i will now be able to work on more CGI and other type of programing on vacations, trips, home when rest of family using main comp, or at school. So don't be surprised if i start poping out new CGIs alot, and maybe making my Free CGI page... First target to add: auto-case the i's in my news and message boards. You'll know when i add it, because 'i' will be always 'I'. And maybe i'll make it an option on the message board for everyone.

Voting Booth - [Mine GO BOOM]

    December 9, 1999

Well, it seams to me that the voting has shown it that most people like the idea for the Zone Hosting... too bad if it is ever used, it would be around a year from now. But i will always try to get them to take the idea and run with it. I'll keep trying until they auto-ignore my emails/icq/whatever (hopefully they won't, won't flood that much). If you want to have that also, don't email them about it yet. About a month after they get the game going on sale and people playing is the best time to tell them. So if we are going to have to beta test for another 5 months, try to remeber 6 months from now about it. :)

SIDENOTE> Man, i need to add to my new cgi an auto-case for letter i, too lazy to hold shift.

Infantry Games - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 30, 1999

Over at Infantry.nmebase.com, they are trying to get yet another event running inside Infantry. The last game was fun, but many problems with it, as is shown by what they think are problems in one of their many voting booths that they have listed. I would suggest you guys going over there and take a look at what maybe the next event run in Infantry. Hopefully this time, it will be not as miss-orginazed, but it was fun.

Happy Turkey Day - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 25, 1999

Happy Turkey Day, or whatever you want to call it. No real news though.

Happy Thanksgiving! Eat alot, then go throwup in Infantry. ;)

New Command - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 16, 1999

A new command for infantry list has been added. For all your SubSpace players, it is one you've tryed to use before with no success. It is ?arena. It will display all arenas currently in the zone, and the player count. So if you want to have that nice duel vs someone, others can come and watch.

    A bit of an update - [i88gerbils]

    November 12, 1999

The last post i made said i was going to work on translating, into common language, the .itm file. Well, it's a bit hard since all the zones have a different .itm file. I was going to do a template thingy as i did with my last FAQ about the .cfg file. However, to save space, and to keep up good healthy relationships with all the FAQ editors (who, and i include myself in this group, have to go through all the text of each faq before they come to their newest faq). So here's what to expect:

    - .itm *small* explanation

I'm not sure what i'm going to do next + got a lot of work headed my way in Subspace (wtf is subspace??!!) in ASWZ, and a shit load of projects of mine that i'm completing.

Fushigi Yuugi kicks ass and oh yes i am being sadistic and bringing back the Cold Hard Truth. =]

    Duke3D - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 10, 1999

Well.. i know this is not really Infantry type of thing (has nothing to do with it), but i figured about 25% of infantry's population has or had played Duke3D. And i figure about 25% of that 25% (so about 6%) still has the game. And i figure that about out of that 6% that still have it, only 25% of it would visit this site. So for you 1.5% people who visit this site and still have duke3d on your comp, i would like you to reply about my Duke3D map i made. To see the map or download the map, click here to visit the NukeIt map site for Duke3D made by me. :)

Stupid Lag - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 9, 1999

Figures, when i'm out going for that nice High Bounty screen shot of myself with a nice big bty, the whole zone starts lagging once i get up to around 60. Not good lag, like you ignore everything, but evil bad ones, where everything dispears, then every bullet/bomb/whatever comes flying everywhere and you take a good bit of it. Don't you just love harmless game's zone host?

86 Bounty A note about the image: yes it is a true screen shot, but i blocked out my name because it is my 'lame' name. One i got around 50 hrs on, and i play with the lame Heavy with Shotgun, Rockets, Grenades, recharge, heavy armor, and maroced rockets and self-medics. I tell a few people who i am, but not many. Too many when i enter in zone with my Mine GO BOOM name say 'hi' to me, and they have annomous names and don't tell me who they really are.

Commands Update - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 4, 1999

Commands page has been updated. It now has a layout for access level commands (smods/sysops/mods/anything else), including a few mods commands that is known to work. There are a few others, but they havn't been proven to the name (like that nice sysop command for the super stuff, got some ideas for the name of it). Also the % commands (all so few of them) have been added, and also the note about % sounds only sent to others if the player is a mod or higher.

Also will be working on a How To: Spot a Cheater for the heck of it since cheating has spead in Infantry like what has been happening to SS in the last few months (or years). Most of this will be common sense (like seeing someone never die and shotting 5000 rockets in three seconds), but a few will be some that may be harder to spot (the spec cheat, where infantry thinks your playing when you in spec). Also, i'll try to get the 'official' way of emailing Harmless about cheaters, so they get banned correctly.

Voting Booth - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 1, 1999

Added a nice little voting booth there to the left of this page. Go vote on it. Sorry, but you can only vote once a day, or until a bunch of others vote on it. Not putting cookies in the vote like with infantryzone has, since I myself don't care for the cookies ideas, and would rather have people able to vote on it a couple of times if they want to.

Hitting the VIEW will count as you voting, and if you wish to vote again you will need to wait a day or two.

Zone Hosting Comments - [Mine GO BOOM]

    November 1, 1999

Some zone hosting comments i have gotten so far are here as following. If you posted this comment and want me to put your name after it, just say so otherwise it will stay annomous.

Wow, i think you've priety much wrapped it up nicely Mine, you've obviously put a lot of thought into it.
It's a damned good idea, and hopefully, Harmless will do it, or at least something similar. It would help if they ran the servers, instead of simply giving the server software away. It would allow them more control, make updates easier, and help improve security.

I've been thinking about this kinda zone for ages.

make it so the map downloads must be less then 5 megs.... kinda long to download 5 megs =)

I've always dreamed of a main "world" type arena where certain areas of the world would act as portals to other arenas.

I'm right with you buddy. I ran my own Subspace zone and that kicked butt, the only thing was it's hard to find a host.

Well.. thats just some of the many comments i have gotten about the zone hosting idea... also, if you really want this idea to go into action, make sure you also let harmless game's people know how you feel about it.

How to get answers - [Mine GO BOOM]

    October 27, 1999

I would like to state that if you have a question about infantry, please do NOT use FAQ suggester for that question. We can't reply to those. But we can reply to your emails or posts on message board. FAQ suggester is for suggestion questions you hear alot and think should be there, or if you had a problem and fixed it, to tell us. Thanx.

Oh, forgot to mention this - [i88gerbils]

    October 26, 1999

I posted the first two FAQs to the server portion of the FAQ section. The first one explains what files you will need to start editing settings, and the second one explains the .cfg file, which is the general server settings file as in Subspace. I probably will get a .itm FAQ up which will give the basics of what item # corresponds to what item. With that information you will be able to complete the Inventory section of the .cfg file. I might add a quick what's a good type of zone FAQ started. Until next time,

    over 'n out

Faq section is going - [Alexiyies]

    October 24, 1999

The faq section has begun it's growth. We could use some more ideas, and questions, so check out the Faq section, and submit a few questions (and answers!) of your own. Appropriate credit will be given. :)

    Commands are up - [Alexiyies]

    October 22, 1999

The commands page is now up and running, most of the commands we know of so far are up. More will be added as time goes on

Go look at it if you haven't already :)

    Coming along nicely - [i88gerbils]

    October 22, 1999

    Hey there!

Just wanted to say that I'm on the staff here. Currently I am working on the server cfg file, and trying to find out what the hell everything means. Progress is good, i'm probably 50-60% done with the faq.

Also, I am starting to look at the server item file. What I will be doing there is figuring out the weapon # assignments. I hope to have that up soon. With Subspace and all that I'm a bit busy but still plugging away.

    Until next time,

ISH Opened - [Mine GO BOOM]

    October 15, 1999

ISH (Infantry Server Help) is now opened.. I will be giving links out to other main sites, and i will be posting news to sites i have access to about it...

I will also be looking for some nice, smart people who would be able to help with news and FAQs and the message board. If you think you could do this, email me at murphyj@cvn.net.

More site info - [Mine GO BOOM]

    October 9, 1999

Site is getting most of the subpages layouts done. FAQ won't ever be done, since there will always be new ones to add, but it will be worked on. Currently, it is just a layout for FAQ.

The Zone Hosting is pretty much the only thing that will be getting most of the info filled in for now. Also, if anyone wants to help with the news and answering replys on the message board (get name in red like mine), just message me.

Also on the Zone Hosting page, there is a sign-up form to see what people thing about it. Do you think that idea is a good one or do you think it sucks? Tell me!

Welcome to Infantry Server Help! - [Mine GO BOOM]

    October 6, 1999

Welcome to Infantry Server Help! This site is created to help players of Infantry to be able to play Infantry, and maybe one day create a zone or subzone for the game.

As of now, there is no way for anyone other than the people at Harmless to create a zone. Plus, the settings and changing very quickly since still in beta testing. Nevertheless, I, Mine GO BOOM, will be trying to get as much info about errors that happen, how to use commands (everything, from chats to reseting your guy to mod commands if harmless allows it).

Also, I will be working to try to be able to maybe get a zone in Infantry (probly when the game goes to pay-for-play) so that the players could make their own little rock of a zone. If anyone knows how the zone SSCX SCF West for SubSpace is doing now, hosting zones in subarenas, I will try and see if I could get a zone for Infantry to do this too. If I get to be sysop/smod/whatever for it, all the better. If someone else gets to, but the zone gets up and running, I wouldn't mind. All I want to see is that people can try to create there own zones for the game so maybe there will be a new theme of games for Infantry.

SubSpace lived for one reason alone, the players could create and run there own games. Since Infantry will probly MAKE money for the company unlike SS did, they may not give out the server software because they want the $$$, not the players. I don't see any reason why they would give out zones so people can play free else where, even if that zone paid them money a month for allowing it. Since this may come to be, I will see and try my hardest to allow the players to make there own themes, even if Infantry hosts it and gets the money.

To do this, I will need the support of the players to help show to Harmless that this is a good idea to keep the people playing, and to keep the game fresh. If anyone would want to come to help do this, email me at murphyj@cvn.net.

NOTE: At the time of writing this, the subpage for more info about this is not created yet. But if your looking at this in archive mode, or I do get a subpage up and pretty looking, go there for more info about this.

Please send any questions or comments to murphyj@cvn.net or by ICQ (7169673).
